Comments: barefoot people lead a more relaxed life once they become accustomed to hot roads, they learn to step lightly over gravel and they learn to land gracefully when they run. I ran barefoot for the better part of my youth and sometimes, get upset at myself for yelling at my boys when they romp barefoot... but I must, these city streets are not lined with such forgiving turf as my island home.

Comments: As a barefoot sole mate, I love your content - but it can be VERY slow to download, even over a fast internet connection. Only once tonight could I get your home page to download completely - and that was after 3 weeks of trying. Your own personal page is no problem; pages 1 and 2 of this guestbook downloaded OK at first. Page 3 hung; I haven't tried page 4 or the old guestbook yet. I use a fast computer with Internet Explorer 6. Could you look into it, and advise me what I might tweak on my end? Barefooting season in Canada is now over, too bad, so sad. My prime barefooting day is July 1, Canada Day. When it's too cool for barefooting, I sometimes wear socks outside, which is also comfortable.

Comments: Hello Jonathan. It is really enjoyable knowing that a Chinese person like you and myself share the same pleasure of going barefoot. That definitely strikes a sense of individuality within ourselves. Within these days, most of our Asian-American peers are conforming to the popular trends of hair-dying, wearing the latest clothing, and owning souped-up Japanese cars or as I call them, "rice rockets". It is really sad to see them bound their feet in fashionable footwear and not utilize the pleasure of walking barefoot. The platform shoes and sandals that some of the Asian-American girls are sporting today are especially gross at the sight because of the foot deformities they can cause. Currently, I am a university student at the University of California at Davis. Although I have spotted a few barefooters, mostly Caucasian, walking within the campus or the city, unfortunately, most UC Davis students do not bother to bare their feet unless they are studying in the library or enjoying the sun upon the grass. I myself have recently started going unshod outside my apartment after noticing how much fungal infection got upon my foot from wearing shoes during most of my freshman year. Despite making that effort, I am somewhat timid walking barefoot in front of many people, especially with my fellow Asians. I often go barefoot during the night time in Davis, where not so many students throng about. If I have to swing by a throng of people, I would carry a pair of my Birkenstocks along to remind them that I could afford shoes. Because Davis is a quaint college town and not part of a large city, the dirtiest my soles got was a dusty, dark gray. However, if I trailed upon a parking garage floor, they would indeed be blacker. Besides enjoying the pleasure of being barefoot, my interests also include doing activities with my Christian fellowship group, studying math and chemistry, playing the cello, listening to classical, Christian, video game, and new age music, playing computer games, watching Japanese anime, and eating all different sorts of food. My interests at least show that barefooters do not comprise of people who are hippies or weirdos. Hey, barefooters could also include people who are academic, well-rounded, and Christians like me. Comments: i got your site form dss egroups message #1045 & decided to visit. the email address i gave is an "anonymous" one i use for public postings; if you write me there, i'll direct you elsewhere; this is so i can avoid "spam". i have not been shod for weather since march 1997, and the coldest i've ever been outdoors barefoot is -16f. i am doing my part to fight discrimination against barefooters and nudists, but would like to see the country go clothing-optional as well; that would be ideal. (i only dress when i have to, which is basically when i go outside; in summer i wear only running shorts and a tank top at most.) keep your feet (and the rest of you) bare always! and continue to fight the sh** (and clothes) police!

Comments: Despite Portland's well deserved rainy reputation, the three months of summer here are probably the the best barefoot'n weather (70s-80s) you'll find anywhere in the country. Definately better than Texas or Hawaii for this time of year! I enjoy getting my feet dirty from walking barefoot-- do you? Many barefooters to be found around here this time of year and Portland is very barefoot friendly. I visit Maui every year, but have only been to Oahu once. If you are ever up this way, write me! Comments: in belgium we can not go barefoot very well because the weather is not so good but when it is warm i sometimes walk barefoot. but here its rare to see other people barefoot. also the roads are very hard for walking barefoot. i walk more often in sandals. i don't think there is a group of barefooters in belgium.

Comments: Enjoyed reading of your philosophy which is encouraging and winsome. I'm a US Air Force guy (JAG lawyer specializing in international law) stationed in Singapore and go barefoot when I can, never as much as I'd like, for most of the same reasons as the other DSS people. Singapore is potentially one of the most barefoot friendly places imaginable because there is no littering, no broken glass, etc. but one almost never sees people going barefoot per se, they're always slipping their flip flops or sandals off when sitting at a restaurant, cafe, park, etc. Conceptually I think this maybe is so because people always take their shoes off indoors to keep the inside of the house clean, and I think they might consider that concept to be undermined by bare feet for walking outdoors, then, indoors. In a sense it seems kind of "politically incorrect" to do so here but I still try as much as possible. I'm going to Oahu the first week of March, for a one week Air Force conference, hope to take some leave, maybe we could get together and do some barefoot hiking or whatever. I am also a science fiction buff, esp. Star Trek and R. A. Heinlein, and a practicing Catholic in the spirit of St. Francis. I have a wife and two teenagers, 13 y/o son and 17 y/o daughter. Again, really enjoyed your site! Keep up the good work! You're very fortunate to live in beautiful Hawaii. I would love to be stationed there someday. gb

Comments: In New Zealand and Australia a lot of people go barefoot during Spring and Summer, and in Queensland year round. Just returned from a holiday in Hawaii Big Island and Oahu Waikiki. Loved going barefoot everyday. Surprised to see not as many barefooters as expected. Most wore jandals or sandals. Hotels stated they wanted guests to have footwear. I ignored this.

Comments: Greetings fellow barefooter! Hawaii is also one of my favorite places on earth. How lucky you are to live where barefooting is so accepted. One of my most cherished pictures from my trip there 12 years ago is of my bare foot planted firmly in the grass of Maui.

Comments: Greetings from the frozen north (46 N, 60 W), on the day following 20 cm. of snow and much shovelling. Actually, I used the http address given in your message in the DSS mailout. I'll try not to think of how great it must be to be able to barefoot year round. I know scanning can be a major problem, but it would be great to see a few pictures of barefoot activities in your area. However, your site and its links are great.
